Growing Care

When a relative is diagnosed with a disability, long-term physical illness, mental illness, or has a substance abuse problem, it can have varying and life altering implications on those caring for them.

Caring for a relative at home is not a recent phenomenon, but the impact of caring in a climate where health and social services are understaffed and under-resourced, can be far reaching – especially when the carer is under the age of 18.

Current legislation does little to either stop or support children caring for a relative at home.

Growing care documents young carers who are very often unseen and unheard and gives them a voice to share their experience.
